SMART tag Overview
SMART tag aims to be an easy-to-use, helpful system for getting students to and from school safely and efficiently. The most important role in any school transportation is you, the bus driver. As a result, we've tried to build SMART tag from a driver's perspective first, focusing on how this technology can make your job easier throughout the school year.
Let's zoom out and take a look at how transportation works with SMART tag:
DRIVER APP & TABLET
As you pickup and dropoff students, information is sent to the Admin Portal, Campus Portal and Parent Portal. These are all cloud-based.

TRANSPORTATION ADMIN PORTAL
As buses begin their routes, transportation staff can see real-time maps and detailed information on about every bus, including:
- Bus Location
- Pickup/Dropoff Locations for each student
- Length of time at each bus stop, what stops were missed
- Bus delays, buses ahead of schedule, etc.
CAMPUS PORTAL
Schools also have the ability to see transportation information for the students on their campus. They can view:
- Assigned bus route and stop information for each student
- Parent/Guardian information for their students
- Riding history, including when and where they loaded/unloaded the bus
- The location of each bus in real-time for each bus assigned to their school
PARENT PORTAL
Parents can signup to receive alerts when their child's bus is close to their stop in the morning or afternoon. Parent's can also:
- View ridership history, including pickup and drop-off locations and times for the entire school year
- View near-real-time location of their child's bus as long as their child is tagged onto the bus. (This feature is optional for districts)
- Receive scheduled and real-time notifications via email and/or text message from transportation staffÂ
